It's realistic that the Pirates could go out & spend $20M on FA's this year {They won't do it} but, It could get 3 top line players. Let's have a vote what 3 legit FA's would you want to see signed & for how much each? Remember $20M.

When is the last time a player played in the MLB with less fielding range, a lower batting average and more body fat than Aki? Why is he even getting the opportunity to pinch hit? Thank goodness it has been announced Walker will be playing 2nd base everyday.

Although Lastings, did not hit the ball well today, he did make a nice catch. If he was in left McCutchen makes the catch which should have been ruled an error.

you are 100% right arizona, performance is the way to judge players.some of the biggest jerks ever were some of the best players and on winning teams.unless your a milton bradley type, its what you do inside the lines that matter.there isn't 1 team in the majors or minors that everyone gets along and some just down right hate others but they don't let it affect their play on the field.chemistry in the locker room begins and ends with winning.great locker rooms are always equated with winning teams.

I am of the opinion that the past statistics are the best indicator of future success.

This is why I have a feel good of certain prospects within the organization. This is why I am so pleased with the overall W/L records of these farm teams. This is why I am so down on Morton, Aki, and Clement.

Please bring these kids up and let us all see what they can do!

It amazes me how many fans and media know so much about these prospects yet never saw them play a game. We don't know what goes on behind clubhouse doors. Better to promote them a few weeks too late than a few weeks too soon. It's not like first place is at stake here.

Huntington: Big Three 'Still a Ways Away'

This is just an excuse for additional time to work potential trades. It is not like the Pirates are or were ever for that matter in the playoff hunt this season. The best training for these prospect is on the field at the MLB level. These prospets are ready.

Regardless, Huntington will out live Russell in the Pirate organziation.

Lancem, thats a real stretch to be putting Walker in left. While anybody is an upgrade over Lastings, I dont see him as an outfielder regardless of how much work he puts in out there. I still see Pedro as having a range problem at 3rd, so I see Walker ending up there with Pedro being shifted to the other side of the diamond.

Buddy, the numbers you reference as PNC Park as a pitchers park are a bit misleading. When 1 team has nobody in their lineup that can hit a homer, it makes it look like a pitchers park. Another reason the McClouth trade is so bad. We had a guy with power from the left side of the plate finally, and this moron trades him for some overrated arm.

Great article by Ron Cook in the post today. Blame Huntington. This is the worst team I've seen in the past 15 years here. Not even the $9 Million team had this little life. Get rid of Huntington already!!

Aki is cancer. He has displayed little to no MLB offensive or defensive skills this season on a consistent basis. Do the other players on the team even like him?

As soon as he started back from his mysterious injury, the team started losing. I see your point that other teams might pick him up because they will only have to pay the minimum. The team that does that will start losing at a higher % clip. Regardless, I do not want him on the Pirates active 25 player roster.

at least 1/2 dozen teams would try to pick him up and not because he is worth anything, it would be because it will not cost them anything, the pirates will have to eat the rest of his contract.for some reason the pirates never played him at third when laroche was hurt, which is where he played in japan and where he played his 1st year with the rays and some the next year, they put young there who has never played 3rd when they could have moved iwamura and played young at 2nd,where he has played some.because he can play 2nd and 3rd and will not cost anything that is why he will get picked up.

the trend of Aki being productive will not occur this season for the Pirates.

Lancem: I said Aki batting in the back of the line-up would be an improvement over lead off. It would not be the best solution. If he was waived, I cannot think of any major league team in their right mind that would want to pick him up. He has been worthless all season. Excuse me he has not been worthless, he has been a detriment to the team. The team would have been better off playing the game with a 24 man roster. This trend will not continue. The Pirates need to rid themselves of this mess.

BUCS4LIFE: PNC Park averages 1.43 HR's a game since it's existance. There are only six ballparks that have a lower average. It is short down the lines but from 15 feet off the left field line to center field are huge! It's clearly a pitchers park. Now, right field is clearly the way to go for HR's, therefore Alverez should flourish.

he will never be like pujois.he isn't a triple crown threat like pujois is every year.its not even the short right field that isn't taken advantage of,its the spacious alleys that they don't take advantage of.

With the ballpark we have our HR production should be much better than it is.I think they were hoping from some of the guys on the roster better power production and so far it's been dissapointing to say the least. If Alvarez is the man, just like the big guy in ST. LOUIS you have to surround him with other guys WHO CAN GET THE JOB DONE!

maybe with the lack of power, that is way the pirates are looking long and hard at josh sale and michael choice.

when you lack power you need speed, with mccutchen and tabata they should run every chance they get.

Looking at the stats from our minor league teams, take away Alvarez and i don't see any one else with power stats. The long ball just isn't there and having one threat with the long ball in Alvarez when called up, just isn't enough power in the lineup.

everyone who posts here knows that the sellout crowd the nationals will get when strasburg starts against the pirates will be there not to see him but to welcome back millegde and hanrahan

last night they talked about that stat being over rated and gave examples of players hitting well with runners in scoring position but only have very few runs batted in.

I think this team reflects in alot of ways the personality of it's manager, sort of laid back. Would like to see more guys with that fire and passion in their eyes.
