Free Agents

It's realistic that the Pirates could go out & spend $20M on FA's this year {They won't do it} but, It could get 3 top line players. Let's have a vote what 3 legit FA's would you want to see signed & for how much each? Remember $20M.

Zach just said in a interview he wants to stay and be part of the better times in Pittsburgh.Hopefully this will happen in our lifetime.

Laroche, wilson, sanchez they all had tears in there eyes when they left.Even though we had and still have a terrible record, i think these guys really get along well together and going through the tough times, i think they wanted to share the good times when or if they come.

Buc4life do you think all these people that say they wanna stay mean it or are just saying the politcally correct thing.

If you watched sat. nights game against Houston, the young pitcher from the astros had to run over to first on a groundout to the first baseman. After the play , Berkman came over to the mound being a very hot and muggy night just to give the young pitcher a chance to catch his breath and relax. Little veteran things like that a veteran like Berkman giving his young pithcher a break. These are things missing on our club. We don't have a veteran who can take control of a game.

Were on pace to lose 100 games+ So what does management do about it? Are they going to stay pat and do nothing or get some quality leadership players to help the younger guys?

Guy was platooning with a guy batting .180. Tells u all u need to know. Not to mention wouldn't be playing at all if Clement worked out. He would be the 4th outfielder behind a rookie and a first baseman. Good grief bro, that's pathetic.

Arizona, let me know when Lastings develops tool #2 even though Neal called him a 5 tool player. Hey, guy has had a nice run of late, but your continuance of preaching his no errors is a little ridiculous. We've seen him take countless bad angles to balls resulting in no error. Cutch has 4 errors cause he can take correct angles to the ball. Let me know when the 5 tool guy gets to a half dozen steals. Or when he develops an arm. Or gets to 5 homers. You sound silly gloating over a guy with "the 2nd highest batting average on the team". Bro, this is the Pirates, not the Twins. Nobody on the team can hit. Hunter Pence is a 5 tool guy, not Lastings!

Don't forget about that catch!

• Lastings Milledge's two-out, two-run single in the first inning raised his average with runners in scoring position to .363.

What does Millidge have to do before the haters on this board start to give Millidge respect. This is a player with 0 errors while earning very little salary in comparisons to MLB standards. Where are all the Morgan lovers who desire to compare statistics?

• Although the Pirates produced 17 hits, including five doubles, there was no home run, which means the steak of at-bats without a home run with a man on base extended to 1,076.

I say the next question on the fan board should be which Pirate player breaks this streak.

It's kind of ironic, in spite of how bad we are the majority of players want to be part of the team and most of the players traded really wanted to stay.I think they could bring some higher quality free agents to pittsburgh.Would not wait to the last second to sign cutch to a long contract!

arizona you might be right about clement, but i don't think the pirates believe that.

It is best for Clement as an individual and the Pirate organization that he is traded for a fresh start to all parties. You can add Morton to that list. I rather go with fresh blood quality prospects than these two kids. Can they be packaged up with Doumit and Duke by the trade deadline?

A new manager (Leyland??) could generate some desire among free agents to come play in Pittsburgh.

Even with Huntington's support, I cannot imagine Russell starting the 2011 season as the manager assuming the Pirates continue to lose.

piratesreport i agree with you on clement being only a third-string catcher, people made a big deal that he caught 1 game.i think the pirates see him as the starting firstbaseman next year if he shows he can hit some in the majors.i also think if he was hitting .230 and not in the .180's he would still be in the majors.what he does have is alot of power which is something this team needs badly.he seems to be doing well in AAA,6hr's 20 rbi's and a slg. of.542 in 30 games.

I don't see Clement as more than a back-up first baseman/third-string catcher/full-time pinch-hitter at this point. A lot will depend on his power output in the next three months, but I wouldn't rule out Milledge in right field on a full-time basis next season. Remember, he just turned 25 years old.

thank you piratesreport.now, who do you think he might take ab's from?my answer to this question would be milledge.

Early indications are that Clement will play first base and catcher in that order next season. If he shows well in spring training, he has a chance to start the season with the parent club again.

like i said before arizona,i don't think the pirates have given up on clement yet.if or when he gets another chance, where do you think he will play and where do you think jones will play.piratesreport as for lopez,42 games and only 32.2 ip tells you he is brought in for certain situations.not for full innings.lefthanders are batting .209 and righthanders are batting .267.if you are going to be honest,.267 is decent,.209 is good.

Lopez has been effective against both lefties and righties. Check out the numbers. That's what Huntington looks for in relievers.

The problem is we assume free agents want to come here. I highly doubt we will see any big splash signings of players. Who would want to come here? Players want to go to winners and or big cash. Neither of which we do. We shouldn't grossly overpay just to get a player either. As NH said before as we get better payroll goes up. I just hope he wasn't blowing smoke.
