Lancem: Wrong..... It is very political. It is a power ploy. It is a cover for a past poor off season decision. Subconsciously management wants to lose at this point to secure the #1 pick next season. Additionally, less at bats for Milledge leads to lower arbitration dollars. Church is not even sniffing 200. He is just playing out his contract. His days in the MLB / Pirates are limited. I would also place Crosby on that list. By now Tabata should start feeling the heat to produce regularly because there are many capable outfielders that are breathing for his spot in the future. If the team could make some off season moves that produce a #1 pitcher and an all star power hitting SS this team would be quite intriguing for 2011. Who is pulling for Bergesen today?

the question that has to be asked is,what was milledge doing that the pirates thought he needed a 'push'? that is the reasoning russell gave for the platooning.

Polatta: As of late Lastings is hitting the ball well with no protection around him. You need to offer an apology. Zero errors in over 1000 innings played for his prospective team. How many players can you name that have played that many games with no errors on their team who is the 2nd or 1st in batting average on their team. Additionally to qualify the player must have made a game clinching defensive gem that was play of the day.

Who do you want them to trade for Pence? We dont have the assets to aquire a player like him, but im sure Neil is grateful you gave him til Monday to make the trade. Hes never going to please you so why bother following them.

Hunter Pence should be acquired before the weekend series ends. Step up Neal. Tabata, McCuthen, and Pence is pretty solid. Nice cannons from the corner outfield positions. When Neal are u going to stop trying to make this team better thru your horrific pitching acquisitions? You will NEVER outpitch anyone, so go try to outscore them.

Glad for Kratz. To toil for years in the minors as a catcher it's good to see him rewarded. Hope he has success. Obviously it would be good to see Doumit go on a tear to enhance trade value. Seems like his appeal would be more as a DH in AL than at catcher. As for young catching prospects getting a chance in Pittsburgh, the older folks will have to suffice until Tony Sanchez is ready and with the injury that will be delayed. Unless Jaramillo is considered a young option and his bat is limited.

Regardless of the defense, I still think keeping Doumit gives the Pirates the best chance to win in the short term. I will be quite excited if his offense generates interest from other clubs prior to the trade deadline. If the team can generate a solid prospect regardless of position, the trade should get done. Unfortunately, the team really has to root for an injury from a catcher on a contending team. The younger catching prospects require MLB playing time MLB as soon as possible. These players’ growing pains could really favor the short term loss column. Looks like the Pirates have come to terms with Rojas. This is a good sign. Obviously the top two selection signings should be the short term focus for management. I would really like to see them get some quality starts in minor league baseball this season.

Arizona Bruce: I to have had conspiracy thoughts on putting out an inferior lineup to lose games. Keeping Ryan Doumit at catcher when his play has slipped contributes to that cause. Unfortunately spitting on the spirit of the game gets rewarded. We only need to look at the Penguins to see how it has benefited their franchise.

Who on this board is really rooting for the Orioles? The only reason I can justify for keeping Russell in place for the remainder of the season is the #1 selection in the next draft. This must be the reason that Milledge is not playing every single game. How long does it take to sign the front end of the draft? ZVR has yet to show the organization anything. This is quite disappointing. However, this is not as disappointing as Aki. There are many more (Church, Morton, Clement etc..). I am excited for opening day 2011 ater management completes the proper off season moves.

calling up Diaz is going to change the pirates offensive problems.the explosion the offense will have from a AAA player who is hitting .254 with a .306 obp and a slg% of .294 and a ops of .600 will make history.or should i say infamy.

He was only aquired for cash but i still dont understand the move..i read somewhere that the FO is considering calling up Argenis Diaz so that means Crosby or Cedeno is traded?? and the Bixler trade was nothing more to add depth in AAA with a super utility player.
