It's realistic that the Pirates could go out & spend $20M on FA's this year {They won't do it} but, It could get 3 top line players. Let's have a vote what 3 legit FA's would you want to see signed & for how much each? Remember $20M.

The only Gallagher I want to see is the watermellon smasher as an after game act. The last thing we need after Penn and Eveland is to pick up somebody's trash for a promising relief pitcher.

Buccos interested in Sean Gallagher of San Diego, who was DFA. He's only 24 and is a starter, though the Padres were using him in relief..might not be a bad pick up

that has been the argument,is it what you have done in the 1st half of the year or is it what your career stats are.the only reason mccutchen was even being considered is because a player from each team has to have a representative just like bourn and young.

That's why I said that even unbiased (I am admittedly biased towards McCutchen) would be choosing between him or any of the other three All-Star starters, aka Braun, Heyward, and Ethier. Arizona, I am not saying that Votto doesn't deserve to be on it more than anyone that was left off. I should have been more clear - my response was to your comment of McCutchen needing to be compared to other players at his position. How can anyone, when comparing him to the other 8 outfielders selected, say that he doesn't deserve to be there? He should be there instead of Heyward, Hart, Bourn, and Young, at least. I know that Bourn and Young are only there because they're the only viable candidates for their respective teams, but I'm just saying.

arizona you are 100% right.Votto could be the league mvp,i don't see anyone saying that about McCutchen.you can argue that he isn't the pirates mvp.Doumit you are in the vast minority, most "experts" will say Braun or Heywood.all-stars are all about stats and if you would eliminate every team needs a player,Meek wouldn't have made it and McCutchen wouldn't even be mentioned.piratesreport, yankee and red sox fans are like steeler fans, will travel anywhere to see their team.tampa shouldn't even have a team.they don't draw and the have been good for now 3 years.baltimore as bad as they have been still gets more fans than 8 other teams.and it isn't just when the yankees and red sox come to town.

Doumit Dinger: McCutchen's youth, excitement and athleticism makes him an exciting player to build around. That is why 2 months ago, I acknowledged a long term deal is the right direction to go in the Pirate organization. He is having a very good season. However, so are many other players in the MLB. The all star team should award performance based on both offensive and defensive numbers. The popularity angle does come in play. Thus, if I had to name one position player that should have made the team it is Votto and not McCutchen. I am sorry but there are only so many spots. Do you agree Votto should be the first position player asked to participate over McCutchen?

arizona, you seem like you're trying to sound intelligent, but sometimes your words don't quite fit. just a friendly suggestion. Also, just because McCutchen doesn't have the home runs that some of the others have or RBI's (due to his spot in the order/the people in front of him) doesn't mean he is undeserving. Yes, Meek has been the cream of the crop among relievers. But if I'm starting a team for scratch and have the 8 outfielders that were selected along with McCutchen, I am taking McCutchen. And even those that are unbiased would likely be choosing between him or any of the three All-Star starters.

Meek is better at what he does vs. what "Cutch" does what he does. One must accept they have different roles that should be judged not against themselves; however, against their own position peer group. The Joey Votto thing is most puzzling and disappointing to the credibility of the game.

Watching the young kids make daily progress is going to make the 2nd half the most intersting in awhile. The #1 goal for the rest of the year is to determine a solid starting pitching staff to begin next year. Maybe their is light at the end of this long suffering tunnel.

PR- it doesn't compare to what I saw last night. When the Phils scored 2 in the first it was as loud as a Steeler touchdown. Only Cubs fans at MilwauKee could compare to the sheer numbers of Philly fans. And Rosario, when I spend $400 on a game that is 12-2 when I leave and don't have a Pirate fan around me, not sure where the positive would be. Everything isn't a rosy as the glasses u r looking thru
