It's realistic that the Pirates could go out & spend $20M on FA's this year {They won't do it} but, It could get 3 top line players. Let's have a vote what 3 legit FA's would you want to see signed & for how much each? Remember $20M.

What amazes me is that I even still care. I live in Northern New York surrounded by Yankee fans but I refuse to go to the dark side and join them. Guess I'm either just a loser or stupidly loyal. It's not bad enough that I'm a Pirates fan but a Toronto Maple Leaf fan too. I must love the abuse.

Pierce appears ready to come back up but it's very possible he's a 4A player? It's still about pitching which has been better the last couple of days but has a long way to go. I'm not saying it's all his fault but how does Russell keep his job? Seems like Nutting doesn't want to pay for another manager. Cheap, cheap, cheap. As long as MLB keeps lining Nutting's pockets the Pirates will never be contenders.

Church should have been gone long ago. He was another off season blunder. Worst case scenario is he stays on the team until the trade deadline.

This is another case of the backup always is the favorite guy! Come on guys. Presley will be a complementary part of a team but never anything more. We need to look for players who can make an impact. What about Steve Pierce? He has to come up soon! He's killin' the ball again. Church's days are numbered.

Presley had a 533 slugging percentage at Altoona (6 Home Runs). He hit 350 with 30% of his hits of the extra base flavor. He is off to a fast start at Indianapolis. This offensive production is better than any player on the Pirates roster this season. Although he does not have the physical tools of a typical major league power hitter, I like his offensive production. Even if he dipped 15% from these numbers listed above, he would be more than a welcome addition to the Pirates.

Where do you guys see Presley fitting into the future of the buccos? with all the outfielders we currently have, could some trades be on the way to fill holes at other positions?

Pirates report: As for Presley's lack of height or non-power wasn't that the knock on Freddie Sanchez before he won the batting crown. And thank goodness we have the power of Milledge to solidify your argument. Not saying he can be a starter, but would hit better than Ryan Church with just as much power.

sammyk: Presley is 5-foot-9 and doesn't steal bases or hit the longball. Would have to hit in the high-.200s to be a factor in the major leagues. PL

Considering that Presley couldn't break .260 in two years in the Carolina League, it's hard to blame people for thinking his hitting in Altoona was a fluke. I hope he does well but three good games in AAA doesn't automatically change him from suspect to prospect.

It's just a shame that Alex Presley took so long to be brought up this year to Indy. He was tearing up AA from day 1. I guess John Von play every day was blocking his spot.

"Alex Presley led the way, going 5-for-6 and hitting for the cycle, with his first home run at the AAA level included. Presley accomplished the cycle by the 5th inning"

Today's 2b at Indy was Aki Iwamura. Jim Negrych did not start. I guess hitting .400 is not enough. Why play Aki- it's July and he is of no future value to the Pirates. On the positive sign were closing in on Baltimore for 1st draft pick. Only two days matter: 1) draft day 2) trade deadline day

Buc4life: Wouldn't say Duke has much trade value with a bum elbow and a 5.49 earned run average. PL

You might be surprised trading Paul or Zach could bring you an impact player. Teams in a heated pennant race always want that extra pitcher for the stretch. If another pennant contender loses a catcher then Doumit could fetch more.We have no power in the outfield, which we need.Hopefully the players just called up will start to show signs of their ability.

Bucs4life: All those players do not equal an immediate impact all star caliber position at any MLB position. The more of those players that are traded for future prospects the better. Free Agency in the off season or another season with at least 85 losses will happen in 2011.

Church/cedeno/Doumit/One of our starters/Laroche or Young, these are the possibilities i see going in the next couple of weeks.Need at least one outfieler who can hit home runs.Have alot of pitchers and catchers knocking on the door.Crosby is ok as a utility infielder but i hope we can get another fulltime ss.

B+ For building up farm system D- Grade so far on the major league level. Save your money and make a bid for Werth of the phillies during the offseason.
