It's realistic that the Pirates could go out & spend $20M on FA's this year {They won't do it} but, It could get 3 top line players. Let's have a vote what 3 legit FA's would you want to see signed & for how much each? Remember $20M.

Arizona, love Lastings spirit and he is trying hard but is defense is shaky at times and having ZERO home runs with is number of times at bat is not good.Fourth in the league in hitting with runners in scoring position which is more of what we need.Would have preferred Josh Willingham coming over in the washington trade, that would have really solified left field but thats not how it worked out.

Didn't say the trade was made with Hanrahan in mind but that his upside cannot be overlooked. Let's give the trade some time to play out.

Wasn't I about the only one on this board that has been backing Milledge? Even after the last exchange, PR pushed Hanaran as the reason for the trade and not Milledge. Isn't Milledge the primary player that got the Pirates out of this slump?

Considering his batting average is a close 2ND of all everyday players with the required at bats, looks like this should not be a concern. BTW: How many errors does Milledge have on the season?

All you Morgan lovers get ready to compare/contrast numbers at the all star break. It is only a few weeks away.

Second base is Walker's to lose. His defense has been better than expected. The question is, will he hit consistently?

Alot of people have been on Milledge including myself, because I liked Nyger Morgan and the loose attitude and play he brought to the team.Management said they needed more power numbers from that position. Well that hasn't happened but he is one of our most clutch hitters and is one of our emotional players out on the field, which i like to see more of.

They are grooming Laroche for secondbase, the way Walker is playing at second how can you take him out of the secondbase position?

what makes it worse is going into the season, the pirates thought that pitching and defense was going to be their strengths.

The team is ranked 15TH out of 16 NL teams in NL ERA. The team has 13 pitchers this season with an ERA over 5. I cannot think of many other teams in the history of baseball that has had worst starting pitching up to this point in the season than this Pirate team.

Is it possible that the Pirates will disgrace the 1960 WS champions by being the first MLB team in the modern era to reach 60 losses?

The stats are as clear as black and white, when we score 4 or more runs a game our record is one of the best in baseball. The entire pitching staff has the feeling that if it gives up any runs we are going to lose the game.Alvarez will be ok, but don't expect him to do it all.The others need to contribute more consistently.

Bucs: An additional consistent power hitter / RBI producer would only solve one of many problems this team must address.

BTW: I cannot think of any rookie who had has had as much hype as Pedro come out of the block this slow. It has only been a few games and he will be allowed the remainder of the season prior to making any judgments of his performance.

I've been saying since last year our biggest problem is leaving to many men on base and that we needed a couple of proven rbi guys to get the run production up.So how do we address the major problem, go out and trade for a leadoff hitter.Yea that solved the run production problem.

Our annual september nosedive has come early this year. With the midseason break coming soon it's going to be interesting to see who goes this year.No more Parkers or Stargell's around to get us out of these nose dives.Just keep repeating things will get better.

You probably missed it, but ESPN's Buster Olney had positive things to say about the Pirates future.

have you seen or heard the national media.the pirates are the laughing-stock of sports.all you have to do is go back and watch or listen to what they said during and after the strasburg game.it was embarrassing.

After losing 11 in a row, this organization should open their eyes. They are being belittled by opposing managers.

Who is going to get this team fired up? It is proven the manager cannot get it done. He then gets rewarded with a contract extension. This makes no sense.

What pitcher is going to throw at an opposing player to turn the tide? Who is going to initiate a fight of any sort to indicate life still exists in this team and the ship will turn around? When will the all star performances of Andrew McCutchen or Evan Meek shift gears to become leaders by calling a players only meeting? These young lads have a long way to go. It is unfortunate that they do not have the manager who can lead them down the right path.

Do you think it is best to make business decisions out of weakness or strength? When you feel you are forced to extend the General Manager and Manager in the dugout contracts coming from a weakness perspective you are selling yourself short. This is disrespecting your desire for long term results.

If executive producers have financial control of artists who start their career on American Idol then the MLB should have further control of players’ careers in the MLB based on player production. The owners have long ago lost control. They have only themselves to blame to be pushed by the Borass of the world. Baseball would be much better today under my thinking. The players would be much more approachable to the common man.

Baseball does not acknowledge that players need baseball to improve their standard of living more than the owners need baseball to maintain their standard of living. When a role player who most likely will not even make a difference if a team makes the playoffs or not has guaranteed income (produce or not produce) in one single season more than a teacher in a lifetime somebody needs to stand up to address the issue.

ArizonaBruce, I've got a better chance of being named King of England than the MLBPA ever agreeing to even a part of what you suggest. MLB is a business and is bound by contracts like every other business.
