It's realistic that the Pirates could go out & spend $20M on FA's this year {They won't do it} but, It could get 3 top line players. Let's have a vote what 3 legit FA's would you want to see signed & for how much each? Remember $20M.

Just curious... but how come intangibles are ever mentioned when numbers don't dupport the argument? And I'm tired of hearing about hoe the Pirates traded away an All-Star centerfielder? They traded Nate McLouth, who hits .180 and was an all-star because the Pirates had to have one. If he hadn't have been traded, he wouldn't still be here anyway. He'd have been the one designated instead of Aki - his numbers are that bad.

And PR, you are missing the point. By posting Morgan vs. Milledge numbers (which just show the glaring ZERO homers and 3 steals from the 5tool guy) then you dont understand INTANGIBLES. Morgan brought an enthuisiasm to this team. Others were following in his energy. Just like how Jack Wilson changed the clubhouse atmosphere from the ego driven Brian Giles and Jason Kendall. You dont trade players like that. Paul Maholm and Ryan Doumit just watched the player that changed the clubhouse into a positive get dealt for a couple Eastons and a bag of balls. You think they have any respect for Huntington. Absolutely not. Hense, it has effected their performance and they cant wait to get out of here. Its not all about numbers even if you are trying to show the 5 tool guy has only 2 tools.

Lancem, you are absolutely correct the plan hasn't worked. But when you trade a gold glove center fielder that hits 25 bombs, the best fielding shortstop in the majors statistically, a former batting champion, and the current leader in all of baseball in homers and in return the only current major leaguer you have in return is your benched shorstop Cedeno, then the plan wont ever work. Nobody could get less than Neal Huntington for those 4 players. Its embarrassing and appalling this guy was resigned. For getting Cedeno for those 4 players??? Good Grief!!!!

come on already,if huntington's plan had worked, milledge would be the 4th outfielder as of yesterday.if morgan was still here he would have been the 4th outfielder.the plan so far hasn't worked, so he is playing.his name isn't writen in ink on the lineup card like mccutchen and tabta or jones, its in pencil.

Anyone who thinks that Morgan for Milledge trade was bad is stupid. Morgan will be 30 years old in a week. He has zero power, no arm and is a terrible baserunner for having great speed. Milledge is 25!!! He is better than Morgan in all categories but speed. He has a much higher ceiling. Millegde was one of the top prospects in baseball for years. give him a chance. The man hasn't had a full year here yet. And those of you who say he should hit more HR's I agree. But remember the man had a broken hand last year. That can cause short term power issues. Huntington should be applauded for this deal. You get a two better and younger players than the ones you give up. Also Jack Wilson was traded because he has been discussing retirement early. Why not trade him and get some guys that could possibly help the team down the road. I'm on this bandwagon. Just hope we try to obtain some more big league talent now.

I was watching the Nat's game the other night when Morgan got caught stealing again and the announcers sounded a bit fed up with his base running and his lack of hitting and walks. Although he redeemed himself somewhat later when he made some great plays in Center.

As for Oswalt, why? Trade for Hunter Pence then go after Dan Uggla and your team is complete. Well, as complete as it will get with under $50M. I hope Huntington and Nuttball arent gonna sit status quo like these players will develop with one another and learn to win!!! They have to have talent first and foremost.

Arizona, you make absolutely no sense. I'll back Nyger Morgan as an enthusiastic hustling player that gave it his all while he was here. His walks would equal doubles and gap hits were automatic triples. Huntington traded that player to get a player with a very questionable background, one almost the opposite of Nyger Morgan. And it sunk the Pirates to even more deeper depths of the laughing stock of the league. You dont trade Jack Wilsons and Nyger Morgans!

The starting pitching will grow up from this season to next. It certainly cannot get worst. The Oswalt signing would magnify the improvement. The many new call ups will continue to develop. A few minor adjustments can be made to the bullpen in the offseason. If the team could then address the shortstop with an all star talent, I do not know why this team would not be able to compete. This is assuming the team hires a new manager.

At the beginning of the season, Oswalt would have been more flexible on which team he was traded. Now that the Pirates are really out of the race and with veteran status, he would not come to the Pirates. However, I do think he would be open to being a Pirate in the offseason when the Pirates have a fresh start. It will come down to economics. Where will he get paid the most combined with the possibility of future playoffs. He has had success in this division. As a GM, I would go after him in the offseason.

one more thing....Didn't Millidege make a defensive play a few weeks ago that won the Pirates the game? Wasn't it th top defensive play of the day graded by ESPN? Pick on a more pressing need like a new #1 starting pitcher. Why can't they make a play for Oswalt? I have been asking for this since the season began.

Didn't Lastings just gun someone down today? How many errors has he completed since he became a Pirate? He might not cover the amount of ground that others cover but his defense is more than respectable.

Arizona, love Lastings spirit and he is trying hard but is defense is shaky at times and having ZERO home runs with is number of times at bat is not good.Fourth in the league in hitting with runners in scoring position which is more of what we need.Would have preferred Josh Willingham coming over in the washington trade, that would have really solified left field but thats not how it worked out.
